Sci-fi Cityscape WIP 1 by Thosar Sci-fi Cityscape WIP 1 by Thosar
First try on a sci-fi cityscape scene, still need to lots of things, especially lighting wise and need to add much more detail.

Made in Blender.

The giant vid screen with no eyes is a marvelous touch. It reminds me of Vicki from I, Robot.

Thank you! You should if you want, the learning curve can be steep in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, things really get fun! :D

Amazing, but the screen seems to be in a an odd spot, try getting rid of the frame and meld it into a building, or decrease opacity, to make it look like a hologram :D

Thanks! I kinda like the screen there, centers the attention, though I've already changed the angle a while ago. When I ever decide to finish it, I'll post the changed version ;)

Unless the screen is the object you're wanting to be seen, I think it should be melded into a building and you should add some new screens and other LED lights to attract eye movement around your picture ( look @ pictures of times square or Broadway in New York City and you'll see what I mean) :)

looks good, but the sky is a bit empty for sci-fi yes?

Yeah indeed, that's why it's a WIP, though I've been working on many different things, maybe I'll finish it one day. Or just start from scratch ;)

Thank you!! It's not that bad actually, most of the render is defined by the textures, the modeling itself was pretty simple ;)

Very Blade Runner-esque (suggestion - add rain and more atmosphere for depth). Keep up this kind of work, I love it!

Thanks! Yep, I've been thinking of that as well, rain of some fog and then a bit more playing around with the lights for more effect. But it's on hold for now for a few new projects ;)

Not sure what you mean? As in a reference movie/screen? Or just the 3D models itself?
No reference and modeling and texturing in Blender.

To be more specific, I was wonder if you used a building gen script in Blender. They look pretty decent. That city looks similar to what I am trying to make. I mean it wouldn't have to be a perfect match. (something that could pass as a Megaman X look). If you made it from scratch, and would like to contribute to the project when the time comes, I would very much appreciate it. Not any time soon though. Here's a test render of the scene I'm working on now: [link] Except I am using his default armor instead.

Nope, no script at all, all from scratch, but not that hard, the texture are defining the style for the most part. I don't mind passing some buildings on, could even make some just for your project, just let me know how etc ;).

As far as detail goes, only need it for the focal point and for the stuff that is close to the camera.
Anywhere else and it will be lost in the background.

Looks good so far.

Yeah I've been thinking about that too, no use adding lots of detail in the background, just stuff to give the viewer an idea. Though still figuring out what I want to put closer to the camera ;)

What type of city is it?

Is it one of those nice city scenes or do you want to go all blade runnerish?
Once you know what you want to say/show then you can decide what to put in.

Right now the big tv screen acts like a focal point because its different from every thing else.
Am wondering how you will work around that.

Can you check out one of my WIPs, if you have the time?

Not really Blade Runnerish, but just a bit more dark themed, atmospheric sci-fi city like scene.
I've been thinking about some traffic, but still need to figure out a start with that, without making it to simple.

Still need to add more lights as well, so there will be more variation in color, though the screen will prolly remain the focus point.

Sure, any wip in particular?

Wonder if you need traffic?
Have seen a bunch of pictures in which they have a lot of signage and maybe a few hovercraft.
Might want to check out other sci fi scenes.

The WIP is here

The boxy stuff is so I can see the layout before I model everything.
Am working to replace the boxy stuff with the real models.

Yeah, I'm still wondering about that, but I moved on to a different piece, a sci-fi environment for Poser content which is taking all my time, but fun nonetheless! ;)

It is certainly one of the defining films.

As a critique I would have perhaps been a little more heavy handed with the lighting contrast, certainly made the shadows stand out more, but that comes down to taste at the end of the day.

It certainly is, especially the first of it's kind in cyberpunk, have the director's version of it myself :D

Yeah, the scene is still not finished, I'll probably make the shadows indeed stand out a bit more. I have a hemi in the scene, low value for somewhat blue lighting, I can prolly tone it down some more to give a stronger contrast.
